Intimacy with God

These days God has been teaching me about intimacy with him.

While we know in the scripture we are told “When the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth…” (see John 16:13) do we have the understanding of this guidance offered by the the Holy Spirit?

I didn't for a long time in my Christian life. I’ve always thought that if I work hard into doing the “right things” then it means I am in the right position with God.

Until I invested time in knowing God, reading the word and understanding that his purpose for me is to have an intimate relationship with Him.

I was listening to a preacher the other day and he correctly put this that ‘there is no substitute for intimacy with God.’ I thought he just explained it so well. There is no one who can give you that kind of intimacy, being in communion with God, allowing him to see inside your heart.

The Jesus Calling devotional written by Sarah Young has really assisted me with understanding intimacy with God.

It is teaching me to be vulnerable before God and acknowledge His presence in my life.

When I am alone with God I don't have to use special mechanisms for communicating.

I can be myself before Him without shame.

I believe this helps me as I grow spiritually, also it builds a strong relationship with God. I am still learning how to be filled with His presence in my life.
