I am making changes in a lot of areas of my life. I believe that one can start from scratch, dream differently and tell a new story.

You only need courage and determination.

Last year I started a new lifestyle of minimalism.

I am a hoarder naturally, I struggle with keeping my space organized. I am also an impulsive shopper, always finding reasons to buy things.

So since December 2019, I started reading about minimalism. I bought a book on minimalism by Greg Levine. It gives you a step-by-step guide to minimise your life. I must say it has been difficult to change my mindset into that of a minimalist. It's almost like you will be lonely if you don't surround yourself with things.

The book shows you how to get rid of clutter in your mind, your home or your phone. You know those phone numbers you keep and you have not spoken to the person for years? Yes, I also did that. I started decluttering my house following the step-by-step guide on the book. I had documents, newspapers, t-shirts that I got during my journalism career. I thought I would use them again, I just couldn't let them go. I decluttered my bedroom first and made sure it was as minimal as possible. I am proud to say my bedroom is the best place to go to at the end of the day. It used to have piles of clothes on the dresser, my wardrobe was a mess, my pedestal had piles of documents.

I continued to declutter the rest of the house.

This is a daily life thing, because clutter starts to pile up once you relax and think you are done.

The most difficult part is decluttering your wardrobe, getting rid of clothes that no longer fit you.

I struggled with that. I had clothes that didn't fit me hoping I would use them when I lost weight.

I learnt that if you haven't worn a clothing item for over a year, chances are you will never wear it again. It's been five months now since I became a #rookie minimalist. I am taking it one step at a time. It takes me less than an hour now to clean my house because there aren't a lot of things to organize.

I have fallen in love with my home because of how minimal it looks. If you want to change your life start small and don't overwhelm yourself by decluttering everything, otherwise it won't serve you.

You can donate or sell the things you want to get rid of. Making changes is going to be a series #rookielifecoach - Avuyile Mngxitama-Diko
