Our lives versus our hair

Today in my Bible study I came across the story of Dinah who was raped by a man called Shechem and said he wanted to marry her.

This story continues to show the anger of Dinah's brothers when they heard about what happened to her.

At the end of the story these brothers went and ransacked every man's household in Shechem and killed the men.

When Jacob asked them why they did this horrible deed, they said “nobody is going to treat our sister like a w***e and get away with it.”

In no way am I applauding violence, I am just in awe of how protective these brothers were of their sister, how they defended her honor to a point of dealing decisively with the enemy.

I asked myself if there were still any brothers out there in our country South Africa, men who will go to the ends of the earth to defend our honor as women.

Every single day we hear women being brutally killed by men.

In just a few days u have read stories of women being killed, there was one who got stabbed for a stupid laptop, another one was shot at a police station by her husband while opening a case of domestic.

Now if you notice there was no outcry from any political party about this.

Women are there ones at the forefront of fighting gender based violence.

Which tells you that women are on their own in SA.

All of a sudden there is a fight for black hair. (The racist advert about hair which Clicks put up on their website)

Brothers we understand your anger about the advert, we are angry as well.

But if we were to choose which fight we would prefer men to put their strength on our lives and safety would take preference. Not saying the other fight is not important, it is just less urgent than our lives.

We would really appreciate this strength when you fight for our lives.

Racists will have their day… Fight for our lives now and deal with our hair afterwards! - Avuyile Mngxitama-Diko #rookielifecoach
